Who is Jesus?

Jesus Himself asked that question. Jesus asked His disciples “Who do people say I am?” The disciples answered, " Some say you are John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and other say Jeremiah, or one of the prophets." Then Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Then Jesus said, “Blessed are you Simon Peter; for no man told you this, but my Father which is in heaven.”

People today also have their own answer to that question. But how can people really answer the question, unless they have read about Him. We hope this site will help you to find the answer to the question, “Who is Jesus?”

THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT

Our lesson is taken from Matthew 5:1-12

One day as the crowd of people was following Jesus, He went up the mountainside with His disciples and He sat down to teach them. Jesus began to talk about how God wants the people who believes in Him to live their lives.
 This is what He taught:
  1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven
    1. God blesses those who realize their need for Him.  We need to believe in Jesus in order to get into Heaven.  So God blesses those who realize that Jesus is the Son of God and that they need Jesus.  And those that believe in Jesus the Kingdom of Heaven is given to them.
  2. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted
    1. This tells us that once a person comes to know Jesus they will feel sorry for all of their sins, but also they will feel sorry for the sins that is in the world.  Feeling sorry about sin is the first step in repenting.  And God will comfort us by forgiving us of our sins.
  3. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
    1. A meek person is someone who is gentle and loves to help other people.  A gentle person is someone who is willing to do God’s will. For the earth will be given to them.  Just think when you have an attitude of pride which is the opposite of being gentle.  An attitude of pride is something you don’t want, for God’s Word tells us not to be a prideful person.
  4. Blessed are those who hunger, and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
    1. God blesses those who are hungry and thirsty for justice.  For they want to be more like Jesus.  Salvation is the beginning point, as you learn more and more in your spiritual growth it helps you to be more like Jesus.   When you have an attitude for God, you will want to do what is right.
  5. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
    1. The merciful have experienced God’s mercy.  The people who believe completely in Jesus will forgive other people, because they have been forgiven of their sins.  Jesus taught that forgiveness goes both ways.  If you want mercy (forgiveness), then show mercy (forgiveness) to others.  When we forgive other people, then God will forgive us.
  6. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God
    1. God blesses those whose hearts are pure.  Now a pure heart is doing what is right.  That means that your thoughts, your motives, as well as what you say, and what you do, should be God’s way of doing things.
  7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God
    1.  God blesses the people who work for peace.   Peace is more than not fighting and arguing with other people.  Jesus is the Prince of Peace.  So what we say and what we do should help people to come closer to God and with each other.
  8. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven
    1. This means that God blesses those who are persecuted because they live their lives for Him.  Sometimes doing the right thing will get you into trouble with other people.  But, God wants you to do the right thing all the time.
  9. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you, because of Me
    1. You see God blesses you when people make fun of you, or persecute you because you believe in Jesus, or when people tell lies about you because you follow Jesus. There are some people who don’t believe in God. Some people will not like you, when you obey God and have the above attitudes.  Some people will even make fun of you, and some people will insult you.  But, there will be people who will understand you, for they also believe in Jesus.   But remember, the people who believe in Jesus, and obey and trust Jesus, will live in Heaven someday with Jesus.  And they will live with Jesus forever.

From our lesson today we have seen that Jesus taught people how to live their lives.  Did you know that the way you live your life could be a good or a bad example for other people?  You see younger brothers and sisters will look-up to the older brother or sister, and try to do what they see the older brother or sister doing.  So you see the way you think, what you say, and what you do, are important.  For other people are watching you and will do and say what you do.

Do you know that you will feel good when people are nice to you?  If a person smiles at you, it makes you feel good.  But, if a person is mean to you, it will make you feel bad.  you can show other people that you belong to God, just by what you say, what you do, and how you treat other people.
