Jesus Walks on Water

This lesson is taken from Matthew 14:22-33

One evening Jesus had his disciples get into their boat and go ahead of him to the other side of the lake toward Capernaum.  This was the same evening that Jesus fed the five thousand people.  After Jesus left the crowd of people he went up on the mountainside by himself to pray.   But when darkness fell Jesus was still on the mountainside alone.

The disciples by now had rowed three or four miles out on the lake, a strong wind was blowing down upon them in the boat and the water was getting rough.  When suddenly the disciples saw Jesus coming toward them, and Jesus was walking on the water!  The disciples were terrified!  They thought Jesus was a ghost!  And the disciples cried out in fear!  But Jesus called out to them, "Take courage!  I am here!  Don't be afraid."

Peter asked, "Lord, if it is you let me come to you on the water."  So Jesus told Peter to come. So Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and went toward Jesus.  But when Peter heard the wind, he became afraid and he begin to sink.  So Peter cried out to Jesus to save him.  Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught Peter.  Then Jesus said, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?"

Jesus and Peter climbed into the boat, and the wind died down.  Then those who were in the boat worshiped Jesus, and they said, "Truly you are the Son of God."
