This
lesson is taken from Mark 10: 46-52
Jesus
and His disciples came to a city called Jericho. As Jesus and
His disciples, together with a large crowd of people, were leaving
the city, a Blind beggar named Bartimaeus was sitting beside the road
as Jesus was going by. When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus from
Nazareth was close by, he began shouting, “Jesus Son of David,
have mercy on me!”
“Be
quiet!” some of the people shouted back at him. But
Bartimaeus only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”
You see when the blind man said, “Son of David,” he was saying
that Jesus was the Messiah. For it was a known fact that the Messiah
would be a descendant of King David. The word descendant means a
person's children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and so on down
the line. So when the blind man called Jesus the “Son of David”
he was showing that he knew who Jesus was.
Now,
when Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, “Tell him to come here.”
So
they called out to the blind man saying, “Come on Jesus is calling
you!” Bartimaeus took off his coat, jumped to his feet, and
came to Jesus. Jesus asked him, “What
do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said,
“Teacher, I want to see!” So Jesus said to him, ‘Go your way.
For your faith has healed you.” And instantly , the blind
man could see! Then he followed Jesus down the road.
